Volcanos Throw Rocks

We don’t know when the volcano last erupted. There are many volcanos in the chain, and a lot of estimates and layers of shared ash. What I know: a volcano is never dead, only extinct. They still try to kill you. Every summer in the field, some mountain throws rocks at us.

We sailed out to the volcanos Koniuji and Kasatochi last year, but the beaches are unprotected and the sea was high and a harvest of whitecaps. This year the sea state is eerily quiet, and on Koniuji, a volcano rarely visited but by fair weather skiff, the kelp is more a problem than the swells.
